Thoughts from behind a mower

leadership · focus

My dad taught me that straight rows come from watching the end of the row, not the ground in front of the blade. It works for architecture and careers too.

A wise man (my dad) once told me if you wanted to mow in straight lines you have to look at the end of the row where you want to end up, not right in front of you. This same rule applies to driving. It really helps to watch farther down the road rather than staring at the bumper in front of you. Funny enough, I’ve found this wisdom applies to life too. If you want to be successful (insert your definition of success here), you have to focus on where you want to finish. If you focus on what’s in front of you (the short term) you’ll make compromises, wander off track, get comfortable, etc. Sure, there are bumps and dips in life that might cause a temporary ripple, but, just like mowing, you can straighten things back out in the next pass. I believe the “road to Heaven is straight and narrow” as well. Here’s to all you straight shooters pressing on for the end goal.

For the record, my dad didn’t teach me about proper lighting technique when taking photos
